When I went to study Wood Science and Engineering back in newly democratic Poland it was because I wanted to become a boat builder. Instead I got a job in a Sawmill in Ireland. After that I moved to Sweden where I joined my father’s handyman business and later started my own construction and renovation company. At some point I decided to pursue software development, and ended up working with medical databases, trains, A.I. and open banking. I even launched my own VC-backed startup. But as interesting as it all was, I really missed the experience of creating something tangible with my hands, and changing people’s lives. Even if it was one bedroom/kitchen/deck at a time.
